What Is Octopus Panel Power?

Octopus Panel Power is a beta product which has been designed for businesses with solar panels. Panel Power is a smart, combined import and export business tariff, paying you a fixed 15p/kWh for electricity your business exports.

Who Is Panel Power For?

Octopus Panel Power is specifically for small and medium-sized businesses, so there's an upper limit for solar PV installations of 150kWp. If your solar array is over 150kWp then you can email panelpower@octoenergy.com to discuss further with the procurement team.

What Are The Benefits Of Octopus Panel Power?

Receiving 15p/kWh for your exported electricity will massively improve the return on your solar PV investment, especially compared to the Smart Export Guarantee Tariff, which currently pays just 4.1p/kWh. In addition, having both your import and export tariff with one supplier and on the one bill, makes monitoring your income and expenditure that much easier.

Is My Smart Meter Compatible?

You’ll need a SMETS2 smart meter, a Secure brand SMETS1 smart meter or an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) device which is remotely configurable. Octopus will then be able to receive half-hourly export data. If your business doesn't have a smart meter you can request one from Octopus free of charge and they'll get in touch when an installation appointment is available in your area.

What Else Do I Need?

Octopus will ask for your MCS Certificate and a copy of a letter or email from the DNO (Distribution Network Operator) confirming that they were notified of your solar installation.

How Do I Sign Up To The Octopus Panel Power Tariff?

First of all you have to be an Octopus customer on a business import tariff. If you're not yet with Octopus, don't forget you can earn £100 cashback from your switch by using my Octopus referral link to start your switch. Please note that if you've started receiving FiT payments in the last year, then FiT rules unfortunately mean that you can't switch to Panel Power just yet.
