What's The Tariff With Octopus Fan Club?
With Octopus Fan Club, you'll get 100% renewable electricity and can be on either a standard fixed or flexible variable tariff. Octopus Fan Club is compatible with the Octopus Outgoing Smart Export Guarantee export tariff, but no other Octopus export tariffs. Octopus Fan Club is a smart product and so you can't be on any Octopus smart import tariff whilst on Octopus Fan Club. Octopus Fan Club doesn't support Economy 7, but if you're on Smart Economy 7, you can still sign up and Octopus are able to remove the second register from your meter remotely.
Are There Any Discounts With Octopus Fan Club?
While your local turbine is spinning you automatically receive a 20% discount on any electricity you use. When the wind is really blowing, you'll receive 50% off every unit of electricity consumed. Online you can see the rate you're paying in real time and check forecast wind speeds to help plan your electricity consumption.
What Happens If The Fans Aren't Spinning?
Octopus fans start turning in really light winds of about 2.5 metres per second. That's around the average walking speed of 4 miles per hour, so there is only a very limited number of hours every year in which the blades aren't turning.
Do I Need A Smart Meter To Join Octopus Fan Club?
Yes. To join Octopus Fan Club you require a Secure brand SMETS1 smart meter or a SMETS2 smart meter, from which Octopus can receive half-hourly electricity readings. If you don't have the correct smart meter, Octopus can install one free of charge.
How Do I Join Octopus Fan Club?
You need to be an Octopus customer living in the YO43, CF81, NP24, HX2, BD22, DN31, DN32, DN33, DN34, DN35, DN36, LN11, LN12, LN13, PE24 or PE25 postcodes. What Is The Octopus Energy Collective?
The Octopus Energy Collective is an investment platform which allows you to buy a direct share of a green energy project. It enables you to own a piece of a renewable project for a set length of time while you get the chance to earn a return. This makes Octopus the first UK energy company with a retail investment platform regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
What Investments Are Available?
The platform launched with two Octopus Fan Club wind turbines in Market Weighton, Yorkshire and Caerphilly in Wales. Octopus are planning several more renewable projects across the UK.
How Does The Octopus Energy Collective Work?
Minimum investment is £25 (maximum £20,000), there are no fees and it is free to join. Octopus will let you know how much energy your chosen project generates. You'll be paid dividends as your project sells the energy it generates and can choose to have them credited to your Octopus Energy account. You don't however have to be an Octopus customer to sign up and can receive dividends directly to your bank account. The investment terms is 3 years, during which you become a project co-owner and the targeted return is 6% per year. At the end of the 3 years, the project aims to buy back your shares at the price you bought them for.
Is The 6% Return Guaranteed?
No. This is an investment, so capital is at risk and returns aren’t guaranteed. As part of the sign-up process, you’ll be asked to complete a short, multiple choice quiz to let Octopus know what kind of investor you are. This helps ensure you understand the risks involved with investing.
